‘Being Church’ differently

One family in Christ...for all the family: Loving, Serving, Growing

The writer of the letter to the Hebrews, in a time of intense persecution and adversity, urges the Christian community to keep going:

23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:23-25

Though we are not meeting in person as a church, it is important that we still ‘meet’ in some way during this time. Below are some of the ways we are seeking to offer and build Christian Community during these very unusual circumstances

PRAY – Prayer & Worship

  1. Extended Weekly Notice Sheet: this is a place that you can send in news stories, updates and find out what is happening etc. We will also be providing a reading, reflection, hymn and prayer for you to read on Sunday at 9.30 a.m, or whenever you would like to, as a way of ‘worshipping together’ even though we are not physically present.  See below
  2. Facebook Live services: We are working on trying to stream as normal-a-service -as-possible for congregations to watch at the usual times (or at a more convenient time). The link for the Sunday Service ‘closed’ Facebook group – Though the group is ‘closed’ this is for the convenience and safety of members, but you are welcome to become a ‘member’ – please email vicar@stedwards.church
  3. YouTube Channel for Eggbuckland with Estover – Click here
  4. Daily Prayer: Morning and Evening Prayer will be said, during which emailed-in or telephoned-in prayer requests will be prayed for. – Please email eggbucklandprayer@gmail.com or telephone 01752 781 564 (This may also be streamed on Facebook and will also have a Zoom meeting group in which people can ‘attend’ and participate – see snippets for specific details). Daily prayer will hopefully create structure in the day for people who are self-isolating, especially for extended periods of time and be an encouraging time of prayer together (if physically apart!) – online liturgy here . Audio versions of the Church of England ‘Prayer during the Day’ and ‘Night prayer’ and some other services for you to join in with is available here https://soundcloud.com/the-church-of-england

5. Sunday@7 Candle Lighting

On Sundays we are encouraging people to light a candle and place it in the front window of their home at 7pm.

Special Resources for ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ 2020 :

‘Thy Kingdom Come’ is an annual prayer event that happens all over the world, is supported by most Christian Denominations and at its heart is about encouraging everybody to pray specifically for 5 people we know to come to know Jesus. All the resources, activities and, in some years, events are creative ways that we can encourage one another to do this. This year, due to the restrictions relating to Covid-19, we are not putting on ‘gathering events’ or using the church as a prayer room but asking people to create time and space in their homes to pray. The resources we are using this year, we hope, will encourage you to do that.

  • Prayer and Care – maintaining contact with the 5 people you are praying for
  • Family Prayer Journey App – a great way families can explore prayer together
  • Prayer Principles Video Series – a short series of videos to help you deepen your prayerlife and experience of prayer
  • 24/10 – in partnership with Exeter Diocese, we a joining in with the 24/10 Zoom prayer room – we have an hour slot on Tuesday & Thursday mornings at 9am – join with us or at a more suitable time
  • Daily Prayer on Facebook Mon- Friday
