Poverty does more than exhaust, starve, trap and kill people. It destroys their sense of worth, limits their horizons, robs people of the chance to reach their full potential. Tearfund’s call is to follow Jesus where the need is greatest. We do whatever it takes to end poverty and rebuild poor communities. We work through local churches, because they’re Jesus’ body on earth, ready to care for the whole person – and the whole community – inside and out.
We’re Christians committed to following Jesus where the need is greatest. God has called us to serve those living in poverty, regardless of race, gender, nationality or religious belief.
We know the gospel has the power to transform lives and heal communities, we see this truth in our work every day. God isn’t giving up on the poor, neither are we.
We know that our work is too important not to do it well. We’re committed to professionalism and are recognised for our expertise in relief, development and advocacy.
We’re signatories to the Red Cross Code of Conduct and are certified against the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership Standard. That way, we’re always accountable for the work we do.
More than 75,000 churches have been envisioned, helping them address poverty and injustice in their communities.
- More than 17 million lives have been transformed through community development projects.
- More than 7.6 million people have been helped to recover from and prepare for disasters.
- More than 175 unjust policies and practices have been changed to deliver justice for poor communities.
In 2006 we launched our ten-year vision to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 churches. This is what we’ve achieved since then, thanks to you.
