Data Protection Policy (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will take effect in the UK from 25 May 2018. It replaces the existing law on data protection (the Data Protection Act 1998) and gives individuals more rights and protection in how their personal data is used by organisations. Parishes must comply with its requirements, just like any other charity or organisation.

The Parochial Church Council as a whole has responsibility for ensuring that any data kept is justified and that once no longer required is destroyed. Also, those individuals having such data must secure this with proper safeguards. Such information should be made available to any person whose data is held and any breach should be reported to the appropriate authority. The responsibility for application of these tasks will be given to the Data Protection Officer who will be appointed by the PCC.
