A Meditation for Good Friday
Good Friday is the day when Christians remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. It is a sombre day when churches meet to pray and reflect on the sacrifice Jesus willingly paid for all our sins. Many churches take part in the Walk of Witness. Churches gather (often with other local Christian denominations) to walk through the streets together. They do this to remember that Jesus had to carry his cross publicly through the streets of Jerusalem.
Watch this short film to explore more of what happened on Good Friday:
Marking Good Friday in Eggbuckland and Estover:
We will be starting at with our friends at Crownhill Methodist Church at 9.30am and will walk to St Edward’s Church, Eggbuckland as we sing and pray, carrying a cross. We will then have a reflective service at 10.30am in St Edward’s Church this year. During this service, we will read the account from John’s gospel from John chapters 18 & 19 as we sing, reflect and pray together as Christians from different churches. After the service people can stay and reflect in church for a while and when they are ready to go over to the church hall for refreshments (including Hot Cross Buns).
Later this afternoon we will have an event to help families prepare for Easter as we do easter themed crafts and tell the Easter story using the our own version of an Easter Wreath.
You are warmly invited to join us at either of these events.
A Prayer for Today
look with mercy on this your family
for which our Lord Jesus Christ was content to be betrayed
and given up into the hands of sinners
and to suffer death upon the cross;
who is alive and glorified with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Prepare for EasterPilgrim
All over the world, every day, Christians pray the Lord’s Prayer. The words are powerful. The prayer reshapes our lives in sorrow and in joy. The whole of the Christian gospel is here. Pilgrim Journeys invites you to spend 40 days reflecting on more of what this means.
If you have the LentPilgrim app installed it will automatically update to EasterPilgrim or you can manually update in the app store. The first EasterPilgrim reflection will be emailed to your inbox on Easter Day, Sunday 21 April 2019.
