Living Churchyard Launch

20150926_11270820150926_112256Saturday 26th September saw the offical launch of our Living Churchyard in which we formally declared our intentions to protect and encourage the wildlife, flora and fauna.

The churchyard was prayed over and blessed by Bishop Nick McInnell, and he cut a green ribbon around the old yew Tree by the door of the church. Green to represent growth and new life.

The event was also attended by our MP Johnny Mercer and his family, Tim and Elizabeth Dickens, former vicar at St. Edwards and local councilors Ian and Linda Bowyer. About 40 plus people witnessed the launch and had a tour of the churchyard followed by a barbecue, coffee and cake and a specially brewed elderflower wine made with elderflowers picked in the churchyard.

There was also a video of the Greenfingers team and all the work they have done over the course of the year and honey and bee products were for sale from Citybees who we invited to erect 2 beehives in the churchyard back in the summer.

It was a glorious September day, not a cloud in sight and everyone had a wonderful time.

We were also blessed with a visit from Michael Chequer from radio Devon whose interview will be broadcast on his 7am show, sunday 4th october!
