Waiting: Proclaiming as we wait

It is the third Sunday in Advent on 13th and we are over halfway through this season of preparation.  Not just for Christmas, although often Advent gets lost in amongst the present buying, and watching Miracle on 34th Street yet again, but preparing ourselves as we wait for Christ’s return (cf. John 14:1-3).

Traditionally, when we light the third candle on the advent wreath, we recall John the Baptist who prepared the way for Christ’s coming.

If the Advent season of preparation is getting lost for you in the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparation, take a few minutes to read this prayer and ask God to show you how to witness to the truth of Jesus as John did:

Blessed are you Lord God. You are just are true. To you be praise and glory for ever. Your prophet, John the Baptist, was a bright witness to the truth.May we, your servants in our day, rejoice, and be led to witness to the glory and power of God. May we witness to the world that Jesus is our Saviour, and the King of all time.

You could also come to the Advent Quiet Day on 19th December 10.00am-4.00pm, which is taking place at Church of the Ascension, Crownhill.  More detail in Snippets.

Of course, alongside Advent, the folk of St Edwards are also planning various Christmas events.
