Day 9: Thy Kingdom Come – Celebrate

One family in Christ...for all the family: Loving, Serving, Growing

LOOK…and be curious.

WAIT… with prayerful expectation.

Come Holy Spirit: Thy Kingdom Come.

READ… the text with an open mind.

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain. (Isaiah 25:6-10)

LISTEN… for a word with a willing heart.

RESPOND… with prayer and action.

Oh gentle God, You cross all the barriers of separation; longing to be near us, you wipe away our tears, you shower us with precious gifts; your comfort soothes away our shame. May we spread the word that you have spread a table – and that all are welcome at your feast.

Apart from our favourite things of course. But we are so ‘meh’ about nearly everything else. So little impresses us. So little really stirs us to deep joy. Because of this, we can bring our general boredom with life into how we see and think about God.
We’re a bit bored with faith too. Our eyes are so distracted by the million everyday things around us, we never let it sink in: we know the God – the maker and holder of the whole universe. We are loved and have been given life for ever. We have reason to live and light to live by. These are things to celebrate… but so often we almost give them the ‘whatever’. So in the boring, grey ‘meh’ of our everyday lives, look up today. Let’s realise the awe and wonder of God, hiding in plain sight just beyond the ‘meh.’
Why not take some time today to list the things you know about God that are so beyond ‘whatever’? Surely they’re worth celebrating…
Celebrate that God has given you family and friends to pray for…
